Billy Clouse, Brand Manager

Southern Utah University — Graphic Design

Billy Clouse is a senior graphic design major at Southern Utah University. During his time at SUU, he has served as the Editor-in-Chief for both the university news program, as well as an independent one he started himself. Currently, he sits on the planning committees for three academic conferences and serves as the Senator for the College of Performing and Visual Arts at his institution. After graduation, Billy will pursue a career designing for social justice causes, including LGBTQ equality, feminism, and Intactivism.

Thyme Hawkins

Loyola University — English, Philosophy

Thyme Hawkins attends Loyola University New Orleans. She is a double major studying English with a concentration in Film and Digital Media Studies and Philosophy: Pre-law track with a minor in French. At Loyola, Thyme works in the Office of Writing and Learning Services (OWLS) as a tutor for her peers. In addition, she is a member of Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society, Phi Sigma Tau Philosophy Honor Society, and Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society. Outside of her university, Thyme is an editorial intern for Fleur-de-Lis publishing.

Madison Werner

Binghamton University — Mathematics, Computer Science

Madison Chan is an Innovations in Honors student pursuing a Bachelors in Engineering Technology Management and a minor in Business Administration at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. She is currently working on her thesis, which involves taking process improvement methodologies from industry and adapting them to help teachers improve efficiency in schools. Her work experience includes biohybrid solar cell research at UT Knoxville, working for the biodegradable plastics startup Mobius, and most recently, acting as a product manager intern for the global logistics team at Amazon.

Garrett Sager

University of Alabama at Birmingham — Science and Technology

Garrett is a senior in the Science and Technology Honors Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. After graduation, he plans to go to graduate school for a Ph.D. in computational biology or biophysics. Currently, his research aims to elucidate properties of cis-Golgi vesicles via mathematical models, Monte Carlo simulations, and biological experiments.

Maggie Sutton

Ball State University — English

Maggie Sutton is a junior at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. She is earning a Bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in Creative Writing, and is also completing coursework in preparation for medical school. Maggie is involved with chemistry research involving the fabrication of dye-sensitized solar cells, serves as a peer mentor for her honors college, and is a volunteer program coordinator for a women’s shelter in Indiana. She hopes to spend a year or two abroad after graduation, or might complete an MFA. After that, she hopes to attend medical school and then complete a psychiatry residency.

Meghan Sadler

McDaniel College — Biology

Meghan Sadler is a senior attending McDaniel College and pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. She also minors in Chemistry with plans to apply to medical schools after graduation. Meghan serves as president for the Beta Beta Beta Biology Honors Society and Pre-Health Club, Vice President for the Gamma Sigma Epsilon Chemistry Honors Society, and Historian of the Honors program on McDaniel’s campus. She is also a captain of McDaniel’s collegiate field hockey team and maintains membership with the national Iota Sigma Pi Women in Chemistry Society.

Lexi Lohman

North Dakota State University — English, English Education

Lexi Lohman is a fourth-year student at North Dakota State University double majoring in English and English Education with minors in Spanish, honors, and creative writing. She has been published in Northern Eclecta, North Dakota State University’s literary magazine, and she has received multiple awards at the biannual Showcase of Student Writers. In the spring of 2019, Lexi placed first in long-form poetry at NSDU’s Writing Challenge and also presented her poetry during a reading for faculty and select students. She is currently an undergraduate writing consultant at the NDSU Center for Writers and also serves as a Direct Support Professional at the North Dakota Autism Center. She is now heading the development of a tri-college honors journal, The Ductus.

Aroma Naeem

Wayne State University — Biology

Aroma Naeem is a senior at Wayne State University majoring in biology with University Honors. She has served on the board of the Honors Student Association and American Medical Student Association on campus. She also volunteers as a literacy tutor at a local library. After graduation she plans on applying to medical school to pursue her passion for health equality.

Austin Bagetta

Northeastern University — Pharmaceutical Science

Austin Baggetta is a Junior at Northeastern University studying pharmaceutical science. He is currently working at the University of Milan in Italy doing cancer research as a way to expand his perception of how science is conducted around the world. Since the spring of his freshman year, he has been working in a research laboratory at Northeastern where he learned that he loved academic research, from reading papers to formulating new hypotheses to actually conducting the experiments himself! Thanks to doing an internship at that lab, he presented at NCHC's conference in Boston and managed to attain third place in the Natural Sciences and Mathematics category for his work on G-Protein Coupled Receptor (GPCR) basal activity, and he is hoping that his next project will do just as well this coming fall! When he’s not stuck at the lab analyzing data or conducting experiments, he’s often rock climbing or playing guitar, as both activities he sees as extremely important to long-term physical and mental health; and, of course, they're quite fun!

Cristobella Durette

University of Houston — Creative Writing

Cristobella Durrette is a junior studying Creative Writing with a minor in Studio Art at the University of Houston Honors College. She combines these disciplines to make comics and plans to pursue a career in comics journalism, which pairs nonfiction storytelling with sequential art. She works in various roles at the Cougar, the student-run newspaper on campus. In addition, she is a member of the Houston Scholars program, a mentorship program that provides students the opportunity to engage with a current events topic through research and discussion and to take advantage of experiential learning opportunities. Outside of school, she volunteers at the Montrose Center, an LGBT community center in Houston.

Gabbie Meis

University of Iowa — English, Creative Writing

Gabbie Meis is a third year studying English and Creating Writing at the University of Iowa with minors in Translation for Global Literacy, Spanish, and Psychology. In addition to her new role as associate editor for UReCa, she serves as Writing Editor of Fools Magazine, an arts and culture mag based in Iowa City. Outside of magazine editing, Gabbie is a Writing Fellow for the Department of Rhetoric (where she edits more papers); a peer mentor, editorial support specialist, and admin for Honors at Iowa; and an undergraduate research assistant for a psychoneuroimmunology lab.

George Boktor

MIddle Tennessee State University — Computer Science

George Boktor is studying Computer Science at Middle Tennessee State University with double minors in English and University Honors. George is currently undertaking research in Natural Language Processing using the COQA dataset to refine the accuracy of an agent that can consume, interpret, and respond to sample passages. George is also a dedicated Android Developer for the school’s mobile team, employing architecture methodologies such as MVVM and leveraging version control platforms such as GitLab to create and maintain a clean and workable codebase. George also undertook a Fullstack Engineering internship at CoreCivic, working with Google’s Angular web framework to create features for CoreCivic’s residential reentry centers. George is also an avid writer, having represented his school at the Southern Literary Festival in Memphis and being published in MTSU’s Collage: A Journal of Creative Expression, a nationally accredited journal on which he also serves as Associate Editor. After undergrad, George plans on either pursuing a Junior Developer position in Nashville or an MFA in Creative Writing.

Jane Kim

California State Polytechnic University, Pomona — Business Administration

Jane is currently a business administration major with an emphasis in marketing management at the California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. Jane is a student in the Kellogg Honors College and is passionate about serving her campus and community. In addition, she is a research associate in the College of Business Administration Behavioral Business Research Lab and is currently training research assistants and conducting exploratory research on Type 2 Diabetes, healthcare organizations, and healthcare consumerism. She also works at a local ice cream shop (The Baked Bear), serves as President of her school’s Market Research Club, is a LinkedIn Student Learning Ambassador, and is involved in other clubs including the American Marketing Association, Deaf Awareness Club, Epic Movement, and Material Advantage. She also tries to serve within her community by volunteering within her church to help impoverished families in Tijuana, Mexico through monthly trips. Jane is also a bible study teacher for first and second graders.

Kelly Ferguson

Converse College — Creative and Professional Writing, Hispanic Studies

Kelly Ferguson is a junior in the Nisbet Honors Society at Converse College. She is pursuing degrees in Creative and Professional Writing as well as Hispanic Studies. She is minoring in Art and Marketing. Kelly is Head Editor of Converse College Concept Journal and has received the Lykes Award for best essay. She was also awarded the Agnes Petty Pringle Award for excellence in the English department. After graduating, Kelly plans to see what the literary world has to offer her in experience and travel.

Madina Tuhbatullina

Waldorf University — English, Creative Writing

Madina is a junior at Waldorf University. She is an international student from Turkmenistan. Madina majors in English and Creative Writing. On campus, she is the president of the World Student Association and an officer of Amnesty International, Honors Pillars Group, and Warrior Writing Club. She is a recipient of the Pillars full tuition scholarship. Madina was an editor of the university’s literary journal. Currently, she is working on a new edition of Two on a Tower by Thomas Hardy with her English professor. After graduation, Madina plans to pursue MA somewhere in Europe.

Nandini Mishra

Rutgers University — Religion, Biology

Nandini Mishra is a Rutgers University student double majoring in religion and biology. She is the managing editor of the Rutgers Journal of Bioethics in addition to conducting independent research involving mitochondrial transcription factors. She is also a peer mentor for the university's honors program, and a volunteer at a hospital, a local clinic, and a crisis hotline and hopes to attend medical school in the future.

Nolan Harrington

James Madison University — Integrated Science and Technology

Nolan Harrington is a second-year student at James Madison University majoring in Integrated Science and Technology with a minor in Honors Interdisciplinary Studies. Nolan is a member of the Stanford University Innovation Fellows program and an active lab member in JMU’s Science, Technology, and Society Futures Lab (https://sites.lib.jmu.edu/stsfutureslab/about/). In the lab, Nolan researches Reproductive Technology Policy in Malta. This research has since been accepted to conferences 4S 2019 and SEESHOP 2019. Outside of academics, Nolan is a member of various clubs on campus including: Ghost Hunting, Radio, Video Game, and Outdoor Adventure. After finishing his undergraduate education, he hopes to continue his education and work as a research scientist.

Olivia Fuson

Creighton University — History, Spanish

Olivia Fuson is a History and Spanish double major at Creighton University who is also minoring in women’s and gender studies. She is passionate about justice and equality, and hopes to further these ideals someday through her work as a physician. Since coming to Creighton, Olivia has become a History Welch Fellow and has founded a local chapter of the national Women’s and Gender Honors Society, Iota Iota Iota. Olivia is currently working on a historical research project centered around racial segregation in her hometown of Portland, Oregon. Outside of class, she volunteers in the pediatrics ward at UNMC and helps teach English as a second language to adults. She is excited to join the UReCA team and looks forward to publicize the outstanding work of honors students across the nation!

Prerana Atreya

University of Houston — Pschology

Prerana Atreya is a senior at the University of Houston, majoring in Psychology, and double minoring in Medicine and Society and Creative Writing. She serves as the Director of Prospective Student Outreach for the University of Houston's Office of Admissions and as a researcher at the Baylor College of Medicine for the Choices4Health lab. She serves on the leadership committee for Pratham, an organization where they help fund underprivileged schools in India. Outside of the university, she is trained in the classical Indian Art form and teaches children in her studio dance. She plans to get a PhD in Clinical Psychology and work with children and adolescents with trauma and anxiety.

Sabrina Conza

University of Florida — Journalism

Sabrina Conza is a journalism senior at the University of Florida. She is interested in the First Amendment and libel law, which has led to her position as a research assistant for the Brechner Center for Freedom of Information. Sabrina currently interns in the Office of Legislative Affairs at the Federal Communications Commission. She previously worked at the University of Florida Office of Federal Relations, The Independent Florida Alligator, and Norwegian Cruise Lines. Sabrina also works to promote civic engagement with Chomp the Vote, a UF Student Government agency, and Civic Duty, a nationwide nonpartisan nonprofit

Talia Bowles

Loyola University — Music Industry Studies

Talia Bowles is an Honors student at Loyola University New Orleans pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Music Industry Studies with minors in Studio Art and Business Administration. She is a member of Theta Phi Alpha, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Alpha Sigma Nu. She is currently working on her senior thesis, which involves starting her own music publishing company. Her work experience includes project management at JITU Studio and the annual Magis Awards at Loyola University, and most recently assistant producer for the AV Club curator at the Anchorage Muse.
